The book is the second written by Jeff Shaara, who continues his father’s legacy as a great writer of historical fiction writing. Shaara published the book in 1998, this 640 page long book is about the final days of the Civil War and follows various generals (Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Lawrence Chamberlain, etc.)
As the Civil War nears its end, the generals on either side of the war start to realize the outcome of the war. Their emotions develop into anger, sadness, and joy. Although many people already know the outcome of the Civil War, this book is told from third person perspectives of many generals and provides a broad view on the entire war. The writing style is direct and to the point, with many of the general’s attitudes and characteristics accurately portrayed.
